PCST Team Records Fall at Paradise Invitational!

PCST Depth and Relay Strength Highlight An Amazing First Major Meet of the 2012-2013 Short Course Season

For those of you who are familiar with my philosophy on how to build a swimming program for the future while still enjoying tremendous team and individual success along the way, it will come as no surprise to you that I LOVE LOVE LOVE to see great PCST relays!  The fact that we broke a relay record in the 8 & Under, 11-12, 13-14 and Senior age groups, and only missed a 10 & Under record by a few tenths, shows that depth is certainly one of the strengths of our Tsunami program!  And considering the fact that our records and all time team rankings have improved so much over the years, our relay records prove to be that much more impressive than they ever have been in the past.

At the PCST Short Course Paradise Invitational in late September, the Tsunamis had the opportunity to showcase that team talent.  With over 400 swimmers competing in the meet from 12 different teams, we knew there would be plenty of other great swimmers and relays going head to head with our best Tsunamis.  The program that came out on top as the best overall team was our powerhouse friends from the east, the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club.  However, PCST finished closer to ATAC than we have for a few years and that is largely due to the fact that we are sitting with more really good swimmers in each age group than we possibly have ever had.  Congratulations to PCST for your awesome 2nd place finish at the meet, and a special congratulations to all of our swimmers listed below who had tremendous invididual accomplishments that helped the team move one step closer to our overall goal of being the best team on the Gulf Coast/Panahandle Region.

Team Scores
1) Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club (ATAC)............1421.50 points
2) Panama City Swim Team (PCST)....................1198 points
3) Coast Aquatics (CA)...........................................814 points
4) Dothan Dolphins Swim Team (DDST)...............532.50 points
5) Maclay Northside Dolphins (DOLF).....................434 point

High Point Winners
In addition to our relay strength, we also had individuals in each age group that really stepped up and added very valuable points to the Tsunamis at the meet.  I love the fact that we had high point winners in nearly every age group. The only one we fell short in was the 10 & Under age group, and that's perfectly fine because we have some of the best 9 year olds in the region right now who are definitely going to start stomping their way into the high point rankings very very soon!  A special congratulations goes out to one of our up and coming stars in the 8 & Under age group as Natalie McKenzie absolutely rocked all weekend long with tons of best times!  Well done Natalie and all of our high point winners!

Sprint Pentathlon Winners
On Friday evening, our 13 & Older swimmers got to do something they hardly ever get to do, and that was swim the 50's of each stroke and the 100 IM as official USA Swimming events.  Typically, these events are not swum past the age of 12, so it is always a special treat for our senior swimmers to get to do the "sprint" events.  Our Friday night Sprint Pentathlon included all 5 races.  In order to be eligible to win the Penathlon, you were required to compete in all 5 events that evening.  Congratulations to the following swimmers who scored the highest point totals in that short but sweet evening of racing!

PCST Team Records
Let's face it........our team records are getting fast!  Because of that, they are not usually dropping like flies early in the season like they used to.  I love that because it means that our PCST Team Records mean even more today than they ever have before.  So when a Tsunami breaks a team record in the first meet of the season, you KNOW it's going to be an exciting year!!  Congratulation to the following swimmers who broke now only our individual records, but also our team relay records that I mentioned earlier.  This just goes to show you that we have the best 13-14 girls age group we have ever had right now, as well as one of the greastest swimmers we have ever had in the history of the team.  I would say things are setting up very very nicely for an awesome fall season!

New All-Time Top 10 PCST Swims (All Ages)
You know me........I love stats!  And the All-Time Top 10 List is one of my favorite statistics because it's very simple and to the point.  Who are the fastest 10 swimmers in each event in the history of the team?  It doesn't matter how old you are, or what meet in the season it is..............who are the best of the best?  The fact that we have so many swimmers smacking the old Top 10 times around that are between the ages of 13-17 right now means that our lists are only going to keep getting faster and faster!  Keep it up Tsunamis!  Make this a point of pride for yourself to make these Top 10 lists as fast as possible.

A special congratulations goes out to Hannah Retherford and Michael Duderstadt for swimming times that were the fastest in team history for all ages!  Hannah's 50 Back (28.41) and Duder's 50 Back (24.07), 100 IM (53.07) were better than we have ever seen before!
