Legendary Southeastern Championships For Tsunamis!

Once Again.......Greatest Long Course Southeasterns Ever!!
I hope it's not getting old for your to read that every summer because it's certainly not getting old to say!  Yes, once again, your Tsunamis have done it.  This long course season, 28 of you and your teammates banded together to become the greatest long course Southeastern Championship team in the history of our program.  The venue was a beautiful new facility at the University of Tennessee and our swimmers took full advantage of the great new pool!

We qualified more swimmers than we've ever qualified in a season (36), we scored more points than we've ever scored (381.5), finished higher than we've ever finished (17th) and made our "Tsunami" like force one to be recognized.  And trust me folks........we're getting recognized.  No longer are we the "up and coming" team out of nowhere.  We have been noticed and teams are starting to expect to see us in those championship finals.

You should be very proud of yourselves!  HOWEVER.......in my eyes we are just getting started because there are still many great teams ahead of us so let's keep building up the power behind our "Tsunami" wave and move forward towards a Top 10 Finish soon!

Tsunamis Finish with Record 17th Place and 381.5 Points!
Each year since we began the quest forward in Southeastern Swimming, we have continued to increase our team point total.  The way our LSC championship meet is set up, it's very difficult to score points.  Other LSC's (Local Swimming Committees) score each age group through 16th place, making it easier for swimmers to contribute to their team's total.  Southeastern Swimming, however, only scores the top 8 for 14 & Younger and top 16 for Seniors since there are so many of them.  This means you have to really train hard if you want to be a scorer.

Here is the progression we've made over the last 4 summer seasons.
2006 (106.5 points, 24th)
2007 (113 points, 24th)
2008 (174 points, 21st)
2009 (218.5 points, 22nd)
2010 (381.5 points, 17th)

The New Team Records Just Kept Coming!
When we started the championship meet, we had already captured well over 100 team records this summer.  Sitting there as the distance events were going on that Thursday afternoon, I knew we had something special coming our way.  As the weekend continued, and the records kept falling, each time I would announce to the kids how many records that totalled for the weekend.  When all was said and done, we had broken 53 team records in a single 4 day meet!  Wow!

Top Scoring Relay At Southeasterns Wins Autographed Poster By Christine Magnuson and Randall Bal!
Each season I try and come up with a unique award for the highest scoring relay at the Southeastern Championships.  In February, it was an autographed cap by Olympic Champion and World Record holder, Ryan Lochte.  This time around it was an autographed poster by Olympic Silver Medalist and recent National Champion, Christine Magnuson, as well as World Champion Randall Bal!  Congrats to the 11-12 girls for holding off our Senior Boys 400 Free Relay who finished in an impressive 6th place overall!

Tsunamis Rewrite Nearly Half of the All-Time Fastest Swims In Team History!
All I can say is just wait until you see how many new swims we have in the all-time top ten list as well as the age group all-time top ten list.  After looking back at our statistics this summer, out of all the Top 10 swims for each event (350 total), over 45% of them came from this summer alone!!  That means that 55% of them came from the previous 3 decades while 45% came from the previous 4 months!  WOW!

Cody Bronnenberg Qualifies For Highest Level Junior National Championships!Normally when I drive home from Tennessee and our Southeastern Championship meet, I start to reflect on the concluded season and our team's accomplishments.  I use that valuable thinking time in the "Florida Linen" team van to start planning the next season and keep thinking of ways to improve ourselves as a whole.  This summer though, as I was driving home from Knoxville, I didn't get to move on to the next season yet because the summer was not over.

One of our top seniors, Cody Bronnenberg, qualified for the highest level Speedo Junior National Championships (basically Nationals for 18 & Under swimmers) in the 100 Breast.  In that same day, he got bonus swim qualifying times in the 100 Back and 400 IM, and finished the meet with the 200 Breast bonus cut too.  Sooooooo, while the rest of the team had a week off to get fresh for the next season, Cody was training for the biggest stage he's ever swum on............IRVINE, CALIFORNIA for Junior Nationals!  Andw hat a journey that was. :)

CATCH THE WAVE!

Coach Jonathan
